The IKEA store at Bahía Azul is Málaga's only full-size branch — a proper labyrinth of showrooms and a serviceable Swedish restaurant. Here is how to get there, when to go, and how to avoid the Saturday afternoon queues.

Neighbourhood: San Julián / Guadalhorce, on the western coastal strip.
Distance from centre: 6 km (about 15 minutes by taxi outside rush hour).
Free parking: Yes — a large surface car park and a covered garage.
Opening hours
Store: Monday–Saturday 10:00–22:00, Sunday 11:00–21:00.
Restaurant: opens 30 minutes before the store and closes at 21:30.
The bistro at the exit (hot dogs, cinnamon buns) closes with the store.
Getting there without a car
Bus 16 (EMT): the direct option. Board at Alameda Principal, alight at "Bahía Azul – IKEA". Runs every 15 minutes, €1.40 single, ~30 min journey.
Bus 3: stops near the shopping centre on the way to Torremolinos — useful if you are coming from the airport side.
Taxi / Uber / Bolt: €12–15 from Alameda, €18–22 from Pedregalejo.
IKEA courtesy shuttle: the store no longer runs a free shuttle; ignore older blog posts that mention one.
Delivery, click & collect and assembly
Home delivery: €4.99 for parcel-size items, €19–39 for furniture, calculated by postcode. Click & collect from the store is free. Assembly (via TaskRabbit-style partners) starts at ~€40 for small furniture and climbs to €150 for kitchens; book it separately at checkout. Delivery to the whole of Málaga province, including Nerja, Marbella, Ronda and Antequera, is offered on a scheduled basis.
Best times to go
Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are dead. Saturdays after 12:00 and any Sunday afternoon are Málaga at its most crowded — the checkout queue can run 25 minutes. The Swedish meatball plate is €8.95 and remains the best value hot lunch in San Julián.
