How to get to Málaga airport from the city centre.
Málaga airport is only 8 km from the historic centre — closer than most European city airports. There are four sensible ways to get there. The right one depends on your budget, your luggage, and what time your flight leaves.

Option 1 — Cercanías train (C1)
The C1 train links central Málaga to the airport in 12 minutes and continues to Fuengirola. Board at María Zambrano (upstairs from the AVE platforms) or, more centrally, at Málaga Centro-Alameda. Departures every 20 minutes, 05:20–23:30. Buy a ticket from the machine (€1.80 single, €3.60 return). Walk from the Cercanías platform at the airport to Terminal 3 check-in: 5 minutes, covered, level.
Option 2 — Express A bus
The best option if you are staying near Muelle Uno, Malagueta or the Paseo del Parque — the bus route runs along the seafront, then along the Avenida de Andalucía before reaching T3. Every 20–30 minutes from ~06:25 to 23:30. €4 in cash on the bus. Luggage rack inside; drivers wait for you to load.
Option 3 — Taxi
Málaga's licensed taxis run fixed tariffs to the airport: €25 from the historic centre, €27 from the port, €22 from Pedregalejo. Add €0.53 per suitcase. The fixed price kicks in as soon as you tell the driver "aeropuerto"; there is no metered surprise. Payment by card is now universal but say "con tarjeta" before starting.
Option 4 — Uber, Bolt and private transfers
Uber and Bolt undercut taxis by €2–5 in off-peak windows. Private transfers (Welcome Pickups, Suntransfers) start from €30 for a sedan and are worth it for early flights when you want a guaranteed driver, or for groups of four or more where a minivan is cheaper per head than two taxis.
Two tips for early flights
Trains do not run before 05:20 — if your flight is before 07:00, book a taxi the night before through the Free Now app or ask your hotel to call one. Bar Chinitas at María Zambrano opens at 05:00 for coffee. Security at T3 rarely takes more than 15 minutes outside July/August.
