Stay · Málaga

The best hotels in Málaga, honestly compared.

Málaga's hotel scene is unusually good for a mid-sized Spanish city. There is a proper seafront grand hotel, a run of small restored-palace boutiques in the old town, a design-led cluster in Soho, and reliable budget options that are still walkable to everything worth seeing.

Quick answer

Stay in Centro Histórico for a first trip — you'll walk to the Alcazaba, cathedral, Picasso Museum and tapas streets without ever using a bus. Book La Malagueta if the beach is the point, and Soho for design-forward hotels within ten minutes of the same landmarks.

The picks, in more detail

Gran Hotel Miramar
La Malagueta · 5★ · €380–650

The city's grand seafront hotel — Belle-Époque façade, spa, sea-view rooms and the only true beachfront five-star inside the city limits.

Palacio Solecio
Centro Histórico · 5★ · €260–420

Restored 18th-century palace on Calle Granada. Central, quiet inside, excellent restaurant (Balausta).

Only YOU Málaga
Soho · 4★ · €180–320

Design-forward, buzzy lobby-bar, walkable to the centre and Pompidou. Best value in the upper-mid tier.

Room Mate Larios
Calle Larios · 4★ · €170–280

Rooftop with cathedral views, right on the main pedestrian street. Popular; book ahead.

Molina Lario
Centro Histórico · 4★ · €150–260

Rooftop pool overlooking the cathedral. Reliable, well-run, no surprises.

Vincci Selección Posada del Patio
Centro Histórico (Alameda) · 5★ · €200–340

Built over a preserved section of the medieval city wall, visible through a glass floor in the lobby.

Ibis Málaga Centro Ciudad
Soho · 3★ · €75–130

The dependable budget pick with a real central location — bring earplugs, but the price/location ratio is unbeatable.

Hotel del Pintor
Centro Histórico · 3★ · €90–160

Small, personal, on a quiet lane two minutes from Plaza de la Merced. Best under-€150 room in the old town.

By budget

  • Under €100: Ibis Málaga Centro Ciudad, Hotel del Pintor.
  • €100–200: Molina Lario, Room Mate Larios, Only YOU Málaga (shoulder season).
  • €200–400: Only YOU (peak), Palacio Solecio, Vincci Posada del Patio.
  • €400+: Gran Hotel Miramar — the only true seafront grand hotel.

When to book

Easter, August (feria week in particular), and the December–January Christmas-lights season sell out early and price aggressively — book two to three months ahead. May, June, September and October are the sweet spot for value. January and February are the quietest months and the cheapest, if you can accept 16–18 °C and the occasional grey day.
